Airgas — Multi-Store Signage & Environmental Graphics
One of my favorite projects is the 30+ signage pieces I designed for Airgas, because it gave me the chance to work with just about every type of sign and graphic you can imagine. The goal was to create a cohesive visual system that could be reproduced across multiple Airgas locations throughout the Midwest while still giving each individual piece a little personality.
The project included window vision, posters, illuminated raceway letters, wall wraps, PVC signage, raised lettering, dusted crystal vinyl, acrylic displays with standoffs, an LED “neon” sign, and even a fully wrapped beverage cooler—plus plenty of other smaller pieces that helped complete the environments.
I especially enjoyed the challenge of taking a brand and figuring out how it could live in so many different materials and formats. Some pieces needed to grab attention from across a building, while others were all about the details up close. I worked with the limitations and possibilities of each material to make sure the designs weren't just attractive on screen, but actually worked in the real world.
Seeing the same designs turn into physical signage—and then seeing them pop up in stores across the Midwest—is one of the most rewarding parts of this project. It was a great exercise in brand consistency, large-format design, production thinking, and figuring out how to make a lot of very different signs feel like they belong together.
